The Last Short Word on Love
No, she wasn’t poison to me after all
Nor was I out of her league
Maybe I did put more on her soul
Than she was made for
Unfair of me (I suffered from fatigue)
But I needed to worship someone
Something…
She was as the Sun to me
And I, I was just this guy
On a kind of Acid-trip
Gazing as the day was phasing
Too long at her
Much too long
My retinas burned
My eyes went out
As she sang her siren song
Chemistry for better & worse
Worked its way with me
I fell in love
& I had the balls
To go after her
When beauty called
I answered but too anxious
Too far too fast
I overshot
So now? I tell my friends
There’s no reason why my name
Should come up out there
I just want to be forgotten
Get to status quo ante
Get free of me
Die to myself
For a while
Then at some future point
If someone chooses to anoint
The wounded lover
Without trembling
I’ll resurrect & rediscover
What I should’ve been
Without dissembling
