Chet Baker...Young Man With a Horn.
"Almost Blue" is a song by Elvis Costello (Declan Patrick MacManus) that appears on his 1982 album Imperial Bedroom.[1]
"Almost Blue" was also performed by Everything but the Girl ("Like the Deserts Miss the Rain", 2003), Diana Krall ("The Girl in the Other Room", 2004), The Reputation (Self-titled, 2002), Judy Wexler (Dreams and Shadows, 2008), Alison Moyet ("Voice", 2004) and Gwen Stefani performed this song on Stormy Weather in 1998. Chet Baker performed the song, with selected alternative lyrics, on his album Let's Get Lost (also known as Bread, Butter and Champagne) from 1992, which was the soundtrack to a movie of the same name. There is also a small scale jazz movie of the same name starring Michael Madsen, which was presumably inspired by the song.[1]

Almost Blue
Almost blue
Almost doing things we used to do
Theres a girl here and she's almost you
Almost all the things that you promised with your eyes
I see in hers too
Now your eyes are red from crying
Almost blue
Flirting with this disaster became me
It named me as the fool who only aimed to be
Almost blue
Almost touching it will always do
There's a part of me that's always true... always
All the things that you promised with your eyes
I see in hers too
Now your eyes are red from crying
Almost blue
Almost you
Almost blue

Wow! What can you say? Baker's life was an unmitigated tragic drug-addicted disaster. Sort of like yours truly but not that far gone. At least not yet. The opioids dull the pain. That's for sure. But its not always about me. Word has it women also suffer when they follow their heart. The ways of the world often cut in all directions & then some.
