jazzman646 (May 17, 12:53 PM): Was just in San Diego last week for business and I was amazed at the large number of homeless people there, many of them white in their early 20's (I only mention race because it indicates how much worse minorities must be doiing there). CA is one messed up state, 12% unemployment.

In a one block walk from my hotel to a restaurant, I had at least 5 guys ask me if I had loose change to spare. So either Californians are lazy as hell and won't work, or there are no truly no jobs, and electing Jerry Brown (again) is like pouring gasoline on a burning economic fire

He looks like a loser. But they all look like losers. And are losers. And pretty soon they'll be selling pencils & apples when Wall Street goes belly up next time & there's no mo dough to bail out the dreaded thoroughly disgusting banking mammals. That will be it & then the only answer will be a question, as in: "Which side are you on?" Karl Marx was correct. Crapitalism will have an increasingly disastrous string of crises before ultimate & total & irremediable collapse. It's a built in feature of late phase swinishness aka finance casino capitalism.

Pawlenty's  heartless draconian  measures could never have materialized without their  gutless cooperation. Minnesota resolved its $4.6 billion state budget deficit for the fiscal biennium 2010-2011 by slashing financial and medical assistance for the poor, elderly and disabled; delaying payments to school districts; and making higher education less financially accessible for students. Minnesota is expected to face huge budget deficits for fiscal biennium 2012-2013.

Initially, the state faced a $6.4 billion deficit, but that number was reduced to $4.6 billion as a result of Minnesota’s portion of the federal stimulus dollars. In May, the Democratic Party-controlled House and Senate passed an Omnibus budget bill that was signed by Governor Tim Pawlenty. The bill reduced the deficit by approximately $1.5 billion through, among other measures, $63 million in cuts to higher education, $537 million in cuts to Health and Human Services, and an increase in court-related fees of $47 million.

The cuts to Health and Human Services include reductions or delays in funding to nursing homes, long-term care facilities, hospitals, specialty care providers, and people with disabilities.
