China has shut down 91 Web sites for pornographic and other "vulgar" content, as well as a political blog portal, since announcing its latest bid to ensure Internet morality, state media said on Monday.

Thank God I live in America!
Why, do you think it can't happen here? Think again, it CAN happen here!
Pumple: do you care to give references or examples to what you wrote? Should we be scare that the Neocon has already got hold Obama and his staff?
or are you just throwing something out there and hope it'll stick?
Agree, our civil liberty has already been erroded. Look at the facts that telephone companies turning over our records to our govt, and our govt no longer needs Warrants to tap into our private communications.
I wander what kind of representation we can get if we're labeled possible or as a terroist. I know it is already tough if not impossible to get your name off of the possible terroist flying passinger list (TSA).
History has taught us that when a censorship happens, often there is one or more in the censoring group who has a private porn collection. The odds therefore favour the finding of a closet porno Chinese government official if you dig deep enough. Of course, if you are found digging for that person, you will probably be shot.
Thank God I live in Canada.
Usually the ones that cry out the loudest are doing it themselves. It's like the Catholic priest coming out against sexual immorality and at the same time is molesting kids. The Chinese don't realize that they will never be able to fully censor the internet. It's too big.
lol
First China instituted having only one child, preferably a male. If it was a female that child may likely have ended up in an orphanage or someone's doorstep or sold to foreign parents. Now those boys have grown up and there are not alot of women around. Now the Chinese Government wants to remove porn from the internet but how to retrieve the porn magazines too. Now the Chinese governmnt is worried too many boys may be relieving themselves too often, duh ya think...go figure! That's what one calls a lack of vision. Hope they don't get cross-eyed...
I wish they would do that here in the U.S. Get rid of ALL vulgar, porno web sites, etc.
"Morality."
I lol'ed.
Within the specific context of this article I am having a very hard time distinguishing between the America that Christians want for us and the China that communists want for their country. It seems oppression, limiting free speech, and subjugating anyone who disagrees with your beliefs is very popular within both groups. I wonder how the Chinese feel about "book burning"?
It's funny that you say that about Christians, Benet. Last I checked, it was the Christians' speech being limited in American places like Colorado and Atlanta. I'm a Christian and I believe your stereotype of Christians is wrong. But then, maybe if oppression, limiting of free speech, and subjugation is happening to Christians, you would think that is fine since you disagree with us?
Actually you are quite uniformed. In all truth, those of us who YOU would silence and oppress with your beliefs in a magic Santa are quite supported of your right to try. We believe in your right to teach your children the world was made in 7 days, is only about 10,000 years old, and one day a guy with flaming white hair is going to teleport all the "good" people up to his palace in the air. While it my cause me dismay to see small children indoctrinated in that way, you as an American have the right to say whatever you please, even if such a right tends to cause my beliefs harm. That is the kind of integrity your Christ would admire. Sadly his followers are not quite so generous.
It's simple. I have the right to my beliefs, whatever they are; you have the right to yours, whatever they are. Both of us should have the right to speak freely even if we disagree. I haven't tried to oppress or silence anyone, nor do I desire to, even if what some may say causes me dismay. You say "my" side is well supported, but if you consider Colorado's new law (SB200) and information in the article linked below,
you may find that "my" side isn't supported as much as the opposition. There are many more examples. It's unfortunate that both sides cannot respect each others first amendment rights equally. Believe what you want, say what you want, etc. Jesus gave you free will. Use it and enjoy it as you wish. It's too bad you choose to use your freedom to insult a person who thanks God we all have that freedom.

P.S. There are LOTS of groups that call themselves Christians, but most of the people in those are not really.
Although I don't need girls, it is not nice to close websites. How do they contact other men?
As far as I'm concerned, porn needs to be censored in America, but with, as past President Clinton showed while in office, it will never happen. It's a crying shame that movie directors favor scripts with more graphic sex than romance. Why? They feel the power of money lies on Porn sites, which is a billion dollar, per year, income. That shows there is NO economic downfall. If people stopped spending money on porn sites, it would be a better country and if not, our children could grow into a very violent society. It was what the world used to be like in the Dark ages. Rape and plundering.
Any censoring needs to be done at a parental level. Evidently the parents of the dark age let the kids run wild on the porn sites.
I find it distressing and puzzling how you associate the desire to watch porn with the desire to start an illegal war with another country? Violence is far more the domain of conservatives and their ilk, while admittedly porn seems to be a more liberal pursuit. I have heard it proposed the reasons conservatives are so violent is because they are so repressed, but that is a conversation for another time. This argument about linking graphic sexual imagery with the urge to rape is also seriously flawed. You might as well say Monday night football, is responsible for the rise in violent crime.
We teach english, Math, social science, and physical education...what is missing is a few courses in critical thinking or at least the construct of an argument.
well - freedom of speech on property that all faiths pay for

hey! lets tax all HOUSES OF 'WORSHIP' on their property - GREAT IDEA!
that won't abridge your right to say whatever is on your and or their minds
:-)
I believe that a charity or a group that expends its energy to go beyond and really help those in the community around them deserve respite from the tax collector. These people do the work that few of us wish to do any longer. And it is this work in these times that give people that extra ability to make it one more day.
However, protecting a group under that rule simply because they exist under the guise of a "belief" that they can identify as religious...is arcane and damaging to the principle that was earned by the first group.
However, if a religious organization is committed to flowing their finances into the community instead of material goods for the adminstrators of that religion, then I think (no matter how crazy I think they are) they also deserve the priviledge extended to the first group. But that is only my opinion.
