Overeating may be in the genes for some kids

When it comes to cookies, some children really can't help themselves, British researchers said.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

why yes, greenpagan, for once your overwhelming need to be "ZOMG FIRST LOLZ!!!11!one!111!" is right on target.  That will be the new standard size for childrens clothing.

yay! another excuse for people to be fat. where was this gene when our grandparents were children? shoot even when i was a child? either it just appeared or like the previous statement it has always been there. americans in general just eat more garbage and the producers of this food put more garbage in it. turn off the tv and video games and get the kids outside. having obese children should be considered child abuse. these parents are obviously not caring for there children properly.

Is anyone really surprised that cookies are eaten when they're put in front of kids?

That is so much crap. That gene has always been in humans, the difference being, now instead of those same children going out side and doing actual physical playing, they go and sit, and play games.

Those same kids get fat because they don't get outside and work, or play like the kids in the past had to do!

That little bit of food they eat in a school lunch line is not the problem. GET real, how many of you came home with a lunch box half full with what you left with in the morning, or ate everything on your school tray? YA, that's what most kids I went to school did too.

The problem is the parents that feed them all the OTHER CRAP when they get home, then instead of kicking their butts outside to play, ride a bike, or do some yard work, they plop them down in front of the TV so that they don't have to deal with their kids.

So much easier to discipline a child, when you don't make them do anything!!

Overeating in the genes of some kids??? Come on!!! What kind of stupidity is that? Its from lack of excercise sitting in front of the boob tube and video games for hours! Its because of all the junk and chemicals we put in our foods!!! What they call PE in school now, is hanging around and waiting for the next period!!! All the ridiculous commercials that make their foods look like something you'de love to eat!!! Its not about people anymore folks; its about money and how they can get into your pockets!!! God help us all!!!

Registered Dietitians should only be allowed to report on these types of issues. There would be so much more factual information rather than this garbage.

Really?  cuz the last registered dietitian tried to tell me that LOW fat diets are the best, and yet when this country when LOW fat is when everything went on a health downhill slide.  AND they said to follow the food pyramid which is a JOKE.

No, NATURAL fats SHOULD be a part of the diet, the gene thing is a JOKE because if you give the foods that actually PROVIDE NUTRITION a person will be FULL, and since WHEN did cookies have NUTRITION?

Wonder why people can eat multiple single serving meals at mcdees?  It's cuz the body is PROGRAMMED to register when NUTRITION has reached proper levels.  NO NUTRITION = CONTINUED HUNGER.

Exercise has some to do with it, but not as much as people think.  There are PLENTY of people around the world who don't do a ten mile daily jog yet they're very thin.  It has EVERYTHING to do with nutrition.  A "registered" dietitian is just another brainwashed person.

Well said, Echoe. You give me some hope for society after all. They all keep eating pure junk, nothing but additives (addictives), soda, candy, all empty junk. "Living foods, living body; dead foods, dead body." Then you add the GM Frankenfoods and you may as well forget it. I'd stay away from any "dietician."

Yes, it was the gene that made me do it... it's not a self-control issue. I'm a fatty because it's programmed in me to be a fatty and there's absolutely nothing that can change that fact! Now go fix me a banana split while I sob into this sandwich a little while longer over these depressing findings.

go eat some coconut oil.  You'll find that you're mighty full mighty fast.  And you'll kill off all bad bacteria, viruses, parasites and fungus in your body.
