The first race card of the Obama era is now in play. On Tuesday, Blagojevich's choice, Roland Burris, was turned away on Capitol Hill when he tried to take his seat.

Mr. Burris may be an honorable man, but he should have considered if he wanted this on his epitaph. While the race card is being plied here, I believe all of us, black, white, yellow and red, see through the subterfuge (except for Bobby Rush, who is the ultimate, unfortunate, fall guy here). This is perfect "wag the dog": we in IL certainly have more to consider other than the nefarious activities of a governor narcissist.

Move over George! Rod's on the way to join ya! Don't drop the soap boys. Seems that prison is the preferred retirement home for Illinois governors.
The chicken sh!t senators have changed their positions with sitting Burris. So much for standing on principals.
They let the black caucus scare them.
GET rid of the dumb chicken sh!ts!!!! What the hell ever happen to standing up for the people or standing on principals???
I meant "principles".
I think standing on principals would be illegal!!
What race card ? I don't see it: The man selected to go to the senate via a shameful door. That opportunistic move showed a total lack of both judgement and ethics. He is embarrassing everyone.
Blago may have played the race card to cloud the issue. He has already demonstrated that he has no moral. But Burris went in there knowing what crap he was gliding on to get to the senate.

I agree. Burris has really stepped out into the lime light and in conventional Chicago "in your face" political style said "I am the man!". Obviously he has his own bold personal agenda. This will get uglier... The Senate needs to stand firm. Its not black vs white yet. SHAME on Blago for foisting this mess on the citizens of Ill. Blago should burn in hell for being such an a$$. I am looking forward to his impeachment. Better yet... his conviction and sentencing. This is an evil man... Someone should take him into a dark alley and kick his a$$...

We're to a point where kicking his a$$ is the best he could get.
I am hoping for a taxpayer rebellion... I'll be there. How much more can we take?
Blago reminds me of this little sh*t of a guy in high school. No one liked him... wise a$$... big mouth... ignorant... inconsiderate little bas..rd. Someone needs to ruin Blagos day... maybe mess up his hair....
Its more than that. We have legislature filled with the democratic party, and yet those in IL have sat on their hands while all of this started 12/09/2008?

Mess up that hair!!!!!? Now, that would probably be worse than impeachment to him!
The Illinois legislature is to blame. They didn't want the people to decide who their new senator would be. Why isn't that being discussed? If they let the people decide, they might have picked a Republican. So they would prefer this debacle...

That is peculiar, isn't it. When I tried to contact my state representative on-line, I found there was no web address. After a returned PHONE CALL, I was told they received too much spam to have a web site. The state of IL house? Are you kidding me? They don't want to know what we think. Or Know.
Shame on Burris for taking this appointment - This man may have had the moral high ground at one time but he has lost all credibilty.
To anyone that claims this is a racial issue is a racist themselves. There is NOT one hint of racism - this is about a corrupt governor who tried to sell this seat - why is this getting lost in shuffle? The man tried to make a profit off of an appointment and all the media can talk about is how racism might come into play.
The idiot governor got what he wanted - the spotlight has been moved off of him and Burris has played right into his hand. This should make people question the integrity and ethics of Mr Burris.

Definitely the people who want to claim it is racist are some of the most racist in the country, no matter what their skin color is. What is racist is changing your mind and supporting this pick now that you know how much melanin he has in his skin.
It is a little embarrassing that there are no blacks in the Senate, though...
There's three things you cannot do; 1) make someone like you, 2) make someone love you and 3) make someone accept you. But you can make someone hate you and resent you by trying to force yourself into their lives uninvited.
Mr. Burris's attempts of "forceable entry" into the hearts and homes of America is a desperate cry of a man seeking to avenge himself of the "feelings" of past rejections; thinking that securing the senate seat is true validation and acceptance as a man.
If the truth be told..it's not about his political pursuit of the senate, but more about his personal salvation from himself. What normal, rational and healthy mind would want to create such confusion and chaos for the world to witness. We have gone from a "political celebration" of the one who left the senate, to needing a "phycological evaluation" of the one who wants to enter the senate.

If this were Republicans telling a black man that he wont be seated, will everyone still be talking the way they are now? of course not. Everyone here would be playing the race card.

Diaz: There are Republicans and Democrats that are against seating Burris, as well as there are Republicans and Democrats that are for seating him. Your speculation is wild!
Diaz, since someone being seated must be approved by a majority, not sure if it's 50% or 2/3, but it is primarily Dems, so please think about it, this has nothing to do with race or party lines.
What I'm trying to say is, that IF it was a republican leader leading the charge, he would be called a racist. I understand the situation going on now. it isn't a race thing with me it never is. i just think it would be different if it was a republican in Reid's Place.
And of course BO has to agree with the Democrats in the Senate on this one. BO can't afford for this to bleed onto him. He is already starting out on rocky ground as it is.
AND, the democrat leadership told Blago and the whole world that they would NOT seat anybody Blago nominated!!!
AND let's not forget, Burris doesn't have the proper paperwork, just as the leadership reports. The Illinois Secretary of State has not signed off on the nomination of Roland Burris to the senate seat. There for, Burris made the stupid move to go to DC.
AND the SoS doesn't work for the governor, the SoS is an elected position, hence the SoS works for the people of Illinois!!! I don't know what the politics of this particular SoS is, but Illinois is generally democrat, right??
I think it is beyond ludricrous to introduce race to this matter. I am a black man and do not see the relevance of race. Frankly, the fact that Burris had the effrontery to march up to Washington, fully intending to assume a senate position that had been conferred by one as tainted as Blagojevich, betrays his own shaky ethical stance. He is what my friends and I call a cringer and should go back to Illinois lest he embarass himself further.

This is nothing more than Blagojevick playing more of his games to simply deflect attention from his own crimes. And the media, the "experts", Bobby Rush, and the like are all falling for it and crying racism. Bobby Rush, a former Black Panther, imagine him calling this racist! Maybe there should be a former KKK member in Congress for balance. Like it or not, we all have the same opportunities in this country regardless of skin color. There are an awful lot of black folks who have done quite well for themselves, simply because they chose to. What did they do differently? My first thought would be that they didn't buy into the entitlement themes preached by Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton and their cronies. Bury the race issue! We have a black president!!
I don't know all the facts surrounding this circus, but I suspect that Blago is just sticking it to his so called "political enemies." Burris, on the other hand, I believe is motivated by the fact that he knows that he cannot get elected to a Senate seat in his home state under normal circumstances or that he has been involved in "play for pay" with Blago and he realizes that this is going to come out during the prosecution of Blago. Burris, I think (and I reiterate that I don't know), so he needs to be in the Senate because it is much harder to charge a sitting Senator (look at how long it took to get rid of Jefferson from Louisiana...the guy with 90,000.00 in his freezer). Race is definitely not a factor in this mess.
Burris is an idiot for even accepting the appointment from Blago. This has nothing to do with race, it has to due with the fact Burris wants to be a Senator and Blago's ego. Burris couldn't get elected and he sees an opportunity, no matter how tainted it is.
I listen to enough media and read on-line enough to keep up with current events, I offer my 2 cents and am willing to look at both sides of the issues, but this has got to be the most predictable joke of all.
I said even before I knew that we had an all-white senate that Burris would try and pull the race card, not knowing anything about the man, and just by seeing the way he acted since all this began clued me in, how could a person embarrass himself like that, America does not negotiate or bargain with terrorists. Did he honestly think just because he was going show them all by showing up at the house they would just let him in just because? Because he was black? Because he is a man? Because he said so or else, how many times has someone been appointed because they gave an ultimatum?
Burris knew there wasn't a snowball chance he could ever be elected, would never be appoited on good merit, his only chance to ever hold any office again would be by appointment (that is if he still qualified and followed proper procedure) the people already proved this by his past political losing record. Nobody likes you Burris get a clue, and you have ruined your reputation for life and I don't know how you could dare show your face in public again, I would be so humiliated!!!
With all the bizarre and just plain idiotic things that have been going on in the past few days, weeks, months and years, I think if I were Hillary I would be breathing a sigh of relief at not getting the presidency, I would not want to have to clean up after this party and they don't make a morning-after pill for politicians!
What the heck does that have to do with racism? Burris was appointed illegally and improperly and that doesn't have anything to do with his race. BTW I'm mixed race.
Now the chicken sh!t are changing their position and will seat Burris. The cowardly black caucus threatened them and told them to seat Burris or else.
STANDARDS and PRINCIPALS??? I guess it is true that politicians have neither!!!!!
Burris will be seated. What we have to do as constituents is remember this, and vote accordingly in 2 years. That is, if we still have something to vote for or about.

Ever since he annouced this appointment I have been ashamed both as an Illinoisan and a black man. For Blago. to think that black people or Illinoisans would fall for this obvious trick proves he either think that were stupid or he believe that we will be guided by our emotions (all except Bobby Rush).
This is less about Roland Burris and more about how he was served to Illinois. The perfect example came from and old Cosby show in which he was introduce to his daughter husband. In which he stated it was like someone cooking your favorite dish (Rolalnd Burris) and the serving it to you on a trashcan lid (Blago's issues). Would you still want it?
This side show has gone on long enough. We are in the throes of a depression, and ANY time spent on this Burris matter is a distraction we can't afford. Seat the SOB, let him step on his d!ck for the next 2 years, and let us elect a republican senator in 2010. In the mean time, maybe both the IL and US legislatures can spin their wheels working on economic issues.
