Obama: Full-on geek or just 'nerd-adjacent?' : Some experts contend President-elect too cool, too athletic, too normal

advertisement

Get ready for the geek-in-chief.

President-elect Barack Obama used to collect comic books, can't part with his BlackBerry, and once flashed Leonard "Mr. Spock" Nimoy the Vulcan "Live Long and Prosper" sign.

That and other evidence has convinced some of Obama's nerdier fans that he'll be the first American president to show distinct signs of geekiness. And that's got them as excited as a Tribble around a Klingon.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

I love the fact that our president-elect is being called something other that war-mongering, fear-mongering, stupid, inept, lying, spineless, beady-eyed twit we've had to endure the last 8 years.

Geek, nerd, pragmatic, intelligent, charasmatic, healthy, young, athletic, stable, inspirational, excellence inducing.......

Breath of fresh air adjectives we haven't seen in eons in this countrys' leadership.

Can't wait for the train to leave the station.

In the last of the article, I agree,  I hope Obama is a geek also.

And Goldengate,  I also am in total agreement with you.  It is sooo nice to have great adjectives for once.  I'm waiting at the platform, so I can support the engineer.
