First of all, African-Americans usually tend to vote Democrat. On top of that, I can imagine many blacks (and whites) voted for him not only because they were closer on the issues to him than to McCain, but also because him becoming president would be a historic landmark for black equality in this country.

Yes, some people may have voted for him because he's black. But is that racism? And if you determine it is racism, is it the same kind of racism as white voters voting for the white guy instead of the black guy?

You need to look beyond the numbers before you draw any conclusions.

use to visit Maine in the summers when I was a child and yet while most of the people were decent there was always a small element of the population that were backwoods and uneducated. these same people who posted  the wager may well be the same backwoods and uneducated. the sad thing is that now at this time of my life I will not be taking my grand kids to vacation there and will be selling the properties at a loss if a loss I must take.

I was around for Kennedy......I don't remember that much about killing baby Bush or Clinton....Saddam tried to get POPPA Bush...but I have NEVER HEARD SO MANY "americans" wanting to kill their president!!!!

See California, there is where your naïveté' shows!  I am under no illusion that an incredibly unfortunate set of events would have to have  happen in order to get a black president in office.  Lets look, we have 2 wars, and economy that can only be paralleled by the GREAT DEPRESSION, record unemplolment, and american financial institutions over 100yrs old falling.  If a candidate was as opposite of the current administration as they could possibly be, they would win!  It just so happened that Barack was and is the best candidate regardless of the current condition of the country.

Electing a Black American to a high office is not the same as accepting him in that position with a heart ready to embrace change and see the vision of the leadership even though they may not take care of all issues in the way you deem so.  I am sure President Bush did not please everyone but he was never treated to death threats either, insults yet but not on the level of some of these fine citizens and Americans.
